Holistic Remedies for Acne
- Apple cider vinegar is made from fermented apples and is the only vinegar that is not distilled. By not conducting this steaming process, apple cider vinegar possesses enzymes and minerals that would otherwise evaporate during distillation.
Apple cider vinegar contains alpha hydroxy acids that dissolve bacteria from acne and smooth the skin by regulating the pH balance.
Make an apple cider vinegar solution to use on acne before bed. Combine 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup of water. Apply with a cotton ball and wash off the face in the morning. - Garlic is a natural antibiotic and kills bacteria on the skin. The best way to use garlic for acne is to make a "garlic tea." In a heat-safe bowl or mug, mash 2 peeled garlic cloves. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over them and allow to cool. Strain out the solids using a coffee filter into an airtight jar and store in the refrigerator. This "tea" is less irritating than straight garlic juice.
Apply the garlic water to acne with a cotton ball concentrating on the worst areas. Leave on the face for 10 minutes and rinse off. This treatment can be used daily. - Tomato juice contains antioxidants that protect and heal the skin. Vitamin A in tomato juice regulates sebum production to prevent excess oil from clogging pores. Its Vtamin C heals skin damage and prevents acne scars. Tomato juice will also help close large pores.
Apply a layer of pure tomato juice to the skin with a cotton ball. Leave on the face for 20 minutes and rinse with cool water. Another method of using tomatoes to treat acne is to cut a tomato slice and rub it on the face.
