There is a link between alcohol and depression.
If you drink for a long period of time, there are chances that you could develop the disorder.
If you drink a certain amount of alcohol on a regular basis so that you can feel normal, it is one symptom of the condition.
The illness starts when your brain and body begin to shut down during periods of extended alcohol abuse.
This can lead to death.
Alcoholism is a disorder; it is when you are addicted to the bottle.
Getting addicted to something is not usually a good thing.
Alcoholism normally shows the same signs and symptoms that are used in the diagnosis of major depression.
Some people believe that alcohol is an antidepressant and can therefore give them respite from the illness.
It may initially give you respite but after a while you will go back to the same state.
There have even been claims that when the alcohol wears off, you become more depressed than before.
You need to understand that alcohol is not an antidepressant and has the potential to even make the situation worse.
Despite the numerous problems that are associated with excessive drinking, some people still believe that a beer or a whiskey can act as an antidepressant.
One link between alcohol and depression is that sufferers in both cases are found in a state of irritation or offensiveness.
Alcoholism increases the chances of a relapse of the disorder.
Chances of suicidal attempts are usually higher in persons suffering from major depression and alcoholism.
Various scientific researches have shown that there is a genetic link between these two disorders.
