How to Convert a Pattern Into a Maternity Style
- 1). Take your bust measurements and find a pattern that proportionally corresponds with you. Cut out your pattern pieces and pin them to your fabric. Measure the length of the princess seams in front and back, beginning just under the bust line and finishing at the hem of the garment.
- 2). Transfer this measurement to the tissue paper and draw a triangle measuring about eight inches at the bottom, using the measured length to create the remaining two sides of the triangle. Pin the triangle to the leftover fabric and cut four copies -- two for the back and two for the front -- and cut out the pieces. These will serve as the godets in the dress and give you more freedom in your movement.
- 3). Pin the godets to the garment's princess seams with right sides together. Sew the godets in place and sew the rest of the pattern according to the manufacturer's instructions.
