How to List Chapter 13 Discharge on Credit Report
- 1). Pull your credit reports from all three credit bureaus. Check the "Public Records" section of each credit report to verify how the bankruptcy is reporting. Credit records do not update immediately and it is possible that your bankruptcy will not begin to report as discharged until 30 to 60 days after the actual discharge takes place.
- 2). Visit your local courthouse and request certified copies of your bankruptcy discharge papers if your credit report still reflects an active bankruptcy after two months.
- 3). Make a copy of your credit report and the documents that prove your bankruptcy was discharged.
- 4). Write a letter to each credit bureau whose report still reflects an active Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Explain that the bankruptcy has been discharged and you have documentation to support this fact. Request that your credit reports be updated to reflect the bankruptcy's current status.
- 5). Send the letter, the copy of your credit report and the copy of your bankruptcy discharge papers to each of the credit bureaus that are reporting an active bankruptcy on your credit file.
- 6). Pull your credit reports again after 30 days to ensure that the information has been updated correctly.
