How to Attach Hockey Skate Frames

    Preparation

    • 1). Inspect the hockey skate frame. Count the amount of holes to determine how many screws and bolts you will need. If needed, clean the frame with a wet rag to remove dust, grime or other particles. You do not want anything obstructing the holes when you affix the plate to your skate.

    • 2). Retrieve the hardware from the previous skate frame, if replacing the frame. Use this hardware to ensure a proper fit.

    • 3). Insert the screw into the frame beforehand to guarantee the screws are the correct size for the plate, if attaching a new frame for the first time.

    • 4). Clear your work area. Make sure it is well-lit as you will need to be precise when affixing the frames. Place all tools so they are in-reach to avoid any issues.

    • 5). Put on the work gloves. Wear gloves with rubber or other gripping material as you will need to firmly hold the skate while you work.

    Attaching Frame

    • 1). Line-up the frame with the bottom of the skate. If there are pre-drilled holes, just align them with the holes in the frame. If not, make sure the frame covers the skate evenly.

    • 2). Holding the frame firmly onto the skate, drill screws into the bottom of the skate through each frame-hole.

    • 3). Secure the bolts to keep the screws in place. Tighten the bolts with a wrench, if needed.

    • 4). Put the skate on and stand up. Walk around a few paces and jump a few times to make sure the frame is secure. If you hear rattling, or if it loosens or falls off during this process, remove the bolts and screws and start over. A secure frame is essential for the skate to function properly and safely. Repeat the process for the other skate.
