Fremont Hotel and Casino Review
Many visitors to Las Vegas only know about the casino on “The Strip.” These mega-resorts are highly publicized which goes along with their high prices. They cater more to the upscale visitors whose primary focus is not gambling. Many of the table games have high minimum betting limits. The video poker machine and slot machine payback is not as high as other locations away from the Strip. You will also be paying a lot more per night for your hotel room.
Downtown Las Vegas offers an excellent alternative to the Strip for visitors who are looking for value.
Several years ago Fremont Street was closed to cars and a large canopy of lights was built over the entire street. This is the Fremont Street Experience and every night there is a free light show every hours. Fremont Street has become like a large open air mall and you can easily walk from casino to casino. There are several hotel-casinos downtown and The Fremont Hotel and Casino is one of my favorite places to stay.
The Bottom Line
When I visit Las Vegas I am looking for good games to play. I also want a clean room that is affordable leaving me more money for entertainment. The Fremont Hotel and Casino located in downtown Las Vegas offers everything I’m looking for. At the Fremont, you can find low table minimums and you will be rated even if you are playing five dollar blackjack or penny slot machines. If you want great value along with a good gaming experience then you should try the Fremont.
The Hotel
The Fremont has 447 guest rooms and suites. Many of these were recently remodeled and upgraded.
The standard room is comfortable although some may find the bathrooms a bit small. The Fremont offers non-smoking rooms which are on separate floors from the smoking rooms. They are clean and the housekeeping staff friendly and efficient. Room rates at the Fremont Hotel & Casino vary throughout the year, ranging from $40 to $150 per night. For current rate information call us toll-free at 1-800-634.6182.
Gaming
The Fremont has 32,000 feet of gaming space. All of the standard table games are available and most have a low $5 dollar minimum bet. Blackjack players can find double deck games at the Fremont as well as the shoe games. You can find many full pay video poker machines although there are no full pay deuces offered at the Fremont. Slot players can find any denomination machines from pennies to dollars at the Fremont.
The Players Club
The Fremont is owned by Boyd Gaming who owns the Main Street Station and California Hotel and Casinos which are also located downtown. Your Players Gold card from the player’s club is good for all three locations so you can get credit for you play if you decide to try your luck at one of these casinos. The Fremont is very liberal with food comps so you can enjoy some good food for a fair amount of play. Members of the players club also receive free room offers in the mail throughout the year.
Dining
The Fremont has five restaurants and three bars to choose from. If you want fine dining you can eat at the Second Street Grill or Tony Romas. The Fremont Paradise Buffet is by far the best buffet downtown and better than many around town. You can also pick up a quick snack at the Lani Express or Paradise Café.
Other Services
The Fremont Hotel, Main Street Station, and the California provide a full schedule of complimentary shuttle services to the Las Vegas Strip and the Boulder Strip. Transportation to the airport also is available. If you do not have a rental car you can still visit other casinos around town by taking the shuttle. If you drive in the Fremont offers free valet parking in their secure garage. There is no self parking available.
You can cash personal checks with proper identification, a major credit card, and a valid driver’s license. You can also cash travelers checks use the ATM machines for your convenience. You can apply for casino credit but it is best to do this in advance of your trip.
