PokerStars to Eliminate Fast Table From All Games
In a bid to remove the 'complex nature' of the lobby, PokerStars have undergone a drastic server update to remove the "Fast " and "Regular" table speed options. They have attempted to create a more user friendly experience for all their customers and to simplify the design of the lobby, the leading poker gaming website are now only offering a single decision timer for each game and stake.
The initial "regular" and "fast" table speeds referred to the amount of time each poker player had to act before their hand was automatically folded. In No Limit and Pot Limit games, the "regular" speed option allowed players a 35 second time limit, whereas the "fast" tables were set at 18 seconds. In Pot Limit games the limits varied to 15 seconds for "fast" tables and 25 seconds for the "regular" option.
PokerStars hope to standardize the time limits across all tables, with consideration being made to the variation of game types in relation to the time provided. This is in order to promote a level of consistency across all games available on the website.
For the Pot Limit Texas Hold'em game, PokerStars have proposed an 18 second time frame unified across all the stakes. The default timer for all other games and stakes are yet to be determined as more consideration is needed for the more complex game formats. Longer time limits are expected for high stakes and deep games though, with a PokerStars Ring Game Manager saying, "The speed will vary based on the game, structure, stakes and how deep the buy-ins are."
This bold server update may not be welcomed by all online poker players. Although the move is set to attract new customers to the more simplified and less intimidating website appearance, many players prefer the prospect of shorter game timers. The new added waiting time can build up frustration among players who are waiting for others around the virtual table to make a decision. In addition to this, players who enjoy a selection of "slow" speed tables may now find the games more challenging and struggle to play tables simultaneously.
However with the introduction of Zoom poker, players who prefer fast paced poker action will not be disappointed. Zoom poker is a format that has been very popular since it was introduced. It allows players to automatically switch to a new hand after they have folded, meaning that you don't have to wait for the hand to finish before you can be part of the action again. Instead of being placed at a fixed table, you are part of a pool of players that rotate around tables. It might not be for everyone and it does take a bit of time to adapt to the style of play, but it is a lot of fun. Play money games are available to get you into the swing of things.
