What do children like these days for birthday parties? Are they happy with cake and blowing out the candles or do they need more? Let's think of a few things that will spice up a party without having to work too hard.
Having just attended a party for my four year old grandson Landon, I would like to pass on some interesting ideas that spiced up the party.
First, what ever you do, preplan and make it fun.
Interactive is better and the more the kids can participate the better.
My son and daughter-in-law did this one right.
They decided to do the party at a shelter in the park.
All they had to do was to reserve it ahead of time and when we arrived, their name and the time reserved was posted.
No need to worry if the shelter would be available.
The weather even cooperated and was sunny and warm.
However, in addition to the shelter, they really made it interactive for the kids and set up an inflatable Bounceland Castle where the youngsters could climb in, jump, expend energy, play with their friends and have a great time.
It was colorful, easy to set up, every single child totally enjoyed themselves and it even had a basketball hoop inside plus a slide to get out.
My son had a choice of renting it from a local supplier and the cost would have run a little less than two hundred dollars.
However, being creative, he searched E-Bay and found a new one that cost only $250 including shipping.
Considering the fact that they now have an inflatable toy that can be used many times and will accommodate their ten month old for quite a few years, they made a wise investment.
My daughter-in-law also likes to decorate and she took colorful blue and red light plastic and covered the tables.
Since it was windy, she tied the corners with blue string and didn't have to worry about the decorations flying away.
Also, she added helium filled balloons and had three or four attached to the center of each table.
Then, she had signs hanging from the top of the shelter that said "Happy Birthday.
" It was really festive.
My grandson likes super hero figures, so Spider-Man was the theme of the day.
He had a Spider-Man shirt on during the party and the cake was designed with lots of super heros.
In fact, the cake had Spider-Man hanging from a skyscraper and swinging towards the Hulk and a couple of other super heroes.
Not only was the cake themed, but it was colorful.
Pictures of the young kids that attended were precious.
It was impossible for a four year old to eat cake that had blue, red, white icing without making it a "Picture" event.
All the relatives, including those far away, will enjoy the pictures and feel like they were part of the event.
So, what do children like these days for birthday parties? Each child is different, but if you preplan, come up with a theme, make it colorful and interactive, your party will be fun.
