    • Patio blocks are similar in structure to interlocking pavers and concrete bricks but thinner and hence less expensive. The standard size of a patio block is 1 inch thick, 1 foot square. The blocks come in a variety of colors and shapes and their texture is fairly similar to the concrete building blocks used in foundations. Patio blocks also come in an exposed aggregate surface. These are commonly used for their attractive look. The landscaping ideas for using patio blocks include creating quick patio surfaces, walkways and faux flagstone using different colored blocks.

It is easy to create a paver-look patio surface with the use of patio blocks without the hassle of prepping the ground or cement pouring. Use flat 16 inch by 16 inch patio block and tap them directly into the lawn or dirt surface and get an instant realistic natural stone look patio surface. Use the blocks that come with the bottom grabber teeth that help to keep the blocks from shifting.

    Walkways

    • It is very easy to create attractive walkway pavers with the use of patio blocks. First remove the old walkway if you have one and clear the area of any vegetation. Measure and mark the walkway with stakes and string to estimate how many blocks you will need. Now level the ground well and add 2 to 3 inches of sand as this will compact better and hold the patio blocks more securely in place. When laying the blocks just lay them gently and don't push them into the sand. This will create an even, flat surface.

    Faux Flagstone

    • Use concrete patio blocks in closely related colors such as in tones of either gray or brown and break them into random sized smaller pieces with a hammer. The blocks can also be dropped on a rock to break into smaller pieces. Use these pieces to create a faux effect surface for walkways, patios, driveways and entertainment areas. To create a more expensive look the same construction method can be used with sandstone, slate or other real stone blocks.
