Food poisoning is an illness caused by food contaminated with bacteria. Food poisoning can result in vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain. It can take one to five days for a person to fully recover from food poisoning. A person must continue to eat and drink, but particular foods are easier on the stomach than others. - Bananas are very soft, so they are easy to digest. Constant diarrhea depletes the body of necessary nutrients, including potassium. Bananas are high in potassium, so they restore it to the body.
- Rice is very gentle on the stomach. It is bland enough to not irritate the digestive system. Rice is recommended for those who have diarrhea.
- Plain toast is another acceptable food for a post-food poison diet. Like rice, it is very bland, so it won't irritate the stomach.
- Avoid all fruit besides bananas. Do not drink alcohol or caffeine. Avoid greasy foods and highly seasoned foods. Do not eat anything spicy. Dairy should be avoided as well.
- Make sure to stay hydrated during this time. If drinking water causes you to throw up, suck on ice cubes. Other acceptable drinks are sports drinks with electrolytes, apple juice and weak tea.
