You don't have to spend money in St. Louis to enjoy what the city has to offer. Many top attractions are free, and there are special free events and activities throughout the year. Here are the best free winter events in the St. Louis area.


1. Winter Getaway


Parents can take their kids to the Missouri History Museum for free events during the Christmas break. The Winter Getaway includes a performance by Babaloo and showings of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" and "The Lego Movie.

2. 250 in 250 Exhibit


Celebrate St. Louis' 250th birthday with a special free exhibit at the Missouri History Museum. The 250 in 250 exhibit tells the history of the city through history through 50 people, 50 places, 50 moments, 50 images and 50 objects.

3. Star Party at the Science Center


Admission to the St. Louis Science Center is free for everyone (except for special exhibits). On the first Friday of each month, there is also a free Star Party at the Planetarium. 5. Free Movies at the History Museum

7. Third Friday at Third Degree


Third Degree Glass Factory hosts a free open house on the third Friday of each month. There are glassblowing demonstrations, art exhibits, live music and more. Food and drinks are also available for purchase. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

8. Loop Ice Carnival

9. Eagle Meet & Greets


You can drive along the Great River Road near Alton almost any time in the winter and see bald eagles, but there are also special free Eagle Meet & Greet events on Saturdays at the Alton Visitor Center. 10. Eagle Days


Another good place to see bald eagles is the Chain of Rocks Bridge across the Mississippi River. The Missouri Department of Conservation will be hosting Eagle Days on the bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Scopes will be set up for eagle watching.
