Provide a Safe Environment

• One of the primary duties of parents is to provide a child with a safe environment free from physical, sexual and emotional abuse. In addition, all unsafe objects, such as sharp and inflammable objects, need to be kept away from a child. Conduct a background check on your child's caregiver and ask for references.
  
  

Provide Basic Needs

• Another parental duty is to provide the child with such basics as water, nutritious foods, shelter and a warm bed with blankets, sheets and a pillow. In addition, parents need to supply a child with necessary medical care and medicine as well as regular checkups to doctors and dentists. Furthermore, parents need to supply the child with the clothes appropriate for local weather conditions.
  
  

Education

• Parents are responsible for a child's education. As they share this responsibility with the child's school teacher, the communication between the parents and the teacher should be established and maintained. In addition, parents need to supervise how the child performs his homework assignments, particularly in the elementary school. To motivate the child, recognize and acknowledge academic achievements.
  
  

Morals and Values

• It is the parents' duty to ensure the child has the right morals and values, including honesty, respect, responsibility, compassion, patience, forgiveness and generosity. To foster these morals and values, parents need to lead by example and show these qualities in their everyday lives. Volunteering together at a senior citizen center, animal shelter or community project are ways to promote these ideals.
  
  

Satisfy Child's Self-Esteem Needs

• Another duty parents have is to satisfy the child's esteem needs. First, respect the individuality and uniqueness of the child. Secondly, encourage the child's self-fulfillment by providing the means to participate in an activity, sport or a club.
