How to Setup a 5.1 Surround Sound
- 1). Measure your distance from your ear to your television. Your distance (sitting) should ideally no less than 6 feet. Your distance will determine at what angle and distance the speakers will be from your sitting position in all directions.
- 2). Position the center speaker above or below your television. According to Dolby, it should be as close to your ear level as possible.
- 3). Position the left and right speakers equal distance from your television and equal distance from your sitting position. They should be no less than approximately 3 feet away from each other on each side and placed at ear level.
- 4). Position your left-back and right-back speakers on each side of where you are seated. They should be at an approximate 90- to 110-degree angles to you and at ear level slightly behind you.
- 5). Position the subwoofer where you choose. Avoid positioning it in a corner as it will allow the bass to be too heavy and lower the quality. Since the subwoofer delivers bass, the sound travels in all directions, which makes its location less important than your other five speakers.
