How to Get Rid of Clay in a Creek Bed
- 1). Clean the creek. Clear the clay bed of leaves, sticks and other vegetation. You may need to use a shovel to dig up any deeply rooted weeds.
- 2). Prepare the creek bed. Line the creek bed with the landscape fabric. Unroll the fabric and run it along the entire length of the creek. Use the scissors to cut away any excess fabric that hangs over the creek's banks.
- 3). Put a layer of the stone-based mulch on top of the fabric. Cover the length of the creek with the mulch. You don't need to use a lot or layer it thickly; a thin layer of mulch will keep your rocks and stones in place.
- 4). Add a border around your creek bed. This step is optional. Place large to medium boulders near the edge of the creek, along the creek path. You can get creative with your choices of stone shapes and colors, and placement of the stones. Putting the stones in a straight line may make the creek look man-made.
- 5). Pour the cobblestones and pebbles on the creek bed, along the path of the creek. You should add a thicker layer of these smaller stones because they often get washed away by a hard rain.
