Street Eats Food Truck Festival

About 25 of our popular local food truck chefs participated in this inaugural event in 2012, and in 2014 about 50 kitchens-on-wheels will line the east side of the Salt River Fields complex, at the Center Field parking lot, offering sample-sized and full-sized portions of their most popular menu items.

Street truck food has been featured on the Food Network, and the culture has evolved. It isn't just hot dogs and chips anymore!

Food trucks are now providing high quality cuisine "while maintaining the edgy nostalgia of traditional street food."

Here are the details you'll need to know to attend the Street Eats Food Truck Festival in Scottsdale, Arizona.

When is Street Eats?

Saturday, February 7, 2015
Sunday, February 8, 2015
from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day

Where is it?

The food truck festival is held at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. It is actually a baseball stadium, and during March each year it is the Spring Training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies.

It is located right near the Loop 101 and Indian Bend Road. Here is a map with directions to Salt River Fields.

How much does it cost to get in?

Tickets are $12 per person, children 12 and under are admitted free. Parking is included in your ticket price. Sample-size and full-size food portions are purchased separately.

You can pay at the gate, or buy your tickets in advance online (extra charges will be applied). For $50 you can purchase a VIP ticket, which includes event entry, special VIP tent, private restrooms, six alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks, four food tokens.

What else happens?

There will be musical entertainment. This year on the main stage: TBA. Each day there will be presentations at the Sub-Zero Wolf Cooking Demonstration Stage.

There is a Kids' Zone at the event. There are extra charges for activities there.

Are there food eating contests?

Yes, on both days! Participants will be selected in the order in which they sign up on the day of the festival, so get to the contest stage early. Scheduled contests: TBA.

The 2012 Street Eats Food Truck Festival at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale was the inaugural event. Salt River Fields officials reported that "more than 20,000 people attended the first ever Street Eats Food Truck Festival, a record for the venue still in its first season, with a meal served approximately every 45 seconds; and nearly 4,000 pounds of meat and fish consumed, along with 100,000 ounces of beverages."

Things To Know About Street Eats

1. Free parking means that you won't experience the serious delays getting into the parking lot that were part of the problem at the inaugural event. Thanks!
2. For handicap parking, its best to access Salt River Fields from the Via de Ventura side of the stadium.
3. At the inaugural festival there were some unhappy attendees because of the long lines. Now that the event spans two days and has more trucks participating, I couldn't find any wait times longer than about half an hour.
4. Remember that many food trucks make your food to order, they do not keep a large inventory of pre-made food in the truck. That means that you might have to wait for your food to be prepared and delivered to you. That's part of the food truck experience.
5. Don't expect a bargain. Most sandwiches were rather small, and I didn't see substantial foods for less than $4 or so. Any $2 samples I saw were tastes, really.
6. Children' activities are not free.
7. This event does not take place inside the stadium. It is outdoors, in an unpaved, but mostly flat, area.

1. Upon entering, you'll be given a list of all the food trucks as well as the schedule of events. My advice is to walk around first and see what the food trucks are offering and what people are eating. I saw some great looking Philly steak sandwiches, biscuits and sausage gravy and lobster egg rolls! I like to try more unusual truck food, and not the same stuff that you can get at any ballgame like pizza, Asian noodles, or pretzels -- but you'll find that, too, if you are not an adventurous eater.
2. Cooking demos are included in your price of admission. Popular local chefs make presentations throughout most of the day, and special appearances by nationally recognized chefs are included.
3. Get there early and bring cash!
