The city of Kochi is a growing metro with well defined districts and clearly delineated localities that choose to serve the different sections of residents and the industry. The state highways connect the city to the other major cities of the state like Kottayam and make travel easier to the different parts of the state such as the eastern hilly areas and the coastal areas of the west too.

Commonly used are the public transport buses as it is well organized and very convenient means of travel in the state. There are different types of buses employed by the state for the various distances of the routes and also Volvo buses, both air conditioned and otherwise, for convenience. The private bus system is also very well spread out, and the major bus terminals are at Ernakulam South, Ernakulam Jetty, Kaloor private bus stand and the Vytilla Mobility Hub. Taxis are generally used for long distance travel and the main mode of local transport is the auto rickshaws.

Railways, Airways and waterways

There are three railway stations within the city limits, Edapally, Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town which connect it to the different parts of the city as well as the country. The airport closest to the city is the Cochin International Airport, which is the major point of taking off to the distant corners of the country and the world. Apart from them the maritime transportation services in Kerala are based from the Cochin Shipyard and the boat jetty. The former is used in the marine transportation system and the latter for inland travel. All these factors have contributed largely to the popularity of the area among the real estate developers.
