 Review

After cleansing your face, the instructions state to gently apply an even layer of the exfoliator to wet skin, using circular motions for 15-30 seconds and then remove it with a washcloth and blot the skin dry.

The exfoliator and skin resurfacer contains special microbeads that work with resurfacing agents to gently exfoliate the skin. Glycolic acid, a commonly used AHA, is good for hyperpigmentation. Green tea reduces appearance of redness, protects against hyperpigmentation and has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to help decrease lines and wrinkles.

It also contains fruit enzymes papain (from papaya) and bromelain (from pineapple), which helps with the removal of dead skin cells and pore blockage by digesting the dead cells without damaging the underlying skin tissue. Both bromelain and papain also reduce inflammation and irritation in the skin. Like pumpkin enzymes, papain enhances other resurfacing agents in masks and peels.

While fruit acid peels and exfoliators are milder and better for skin of color, they can still cause irritation in some skin. Bromelain in particular, has sometimes caused sensitivity in my skin, so I do a patch test on my inner arm first, 24 hours before applying any exfoliator with this ingredient.

While it's still expensive, the Marini Holiday Exfoliator is $85 (the regular exfoliator is $90). So if you want to test it out, the limited edition Holiday Exfoliator might be the way to go. It also comes in a holiday box, so it's perfect as a stocking stuffer.

The Holiday Exfoliator is also available in Cranberry Orange scent.
