Digital cameras are the new technology for the camera industry.  One of the main differences between the camera of yesterday and the digital camera is that digital utilizes a memory card to store images, not film.  There are numerous sizes of memory cards on the market.  The size of memory for each card is measured by mega-bytes.  Typically, a memory card can hold from one image on up into the hundreds, depending on the size.  The good thing about a memory card is, that when it is full, you just delete the photos or save them in your PC or some other form of image storing device.  Then they are ready to use again. 

Most of the digital cameras that you purchase today will normally come with a memory card.  They will be either 16 or 32MB.  If you take a lot of pictures, this will be to small for you.  You really need a card that will store at least, oh, around 100 images or so.  When you buy a digital camera, read the information on your particular camera.  It will let you know what range of memory cards that it can hold.  The size of memory on your card also depends on the image format used in your camera.  Most digital cameras use the (JPEC) format.  Each individual digital camera will have a specific memory card format.  Right now, the most commonly used is the Compact Flash format.  This format will hold up to 2 giga-bytes of memory.  That is a lot of memory. 

When it comes right down to it, the size of the card that you will need, depends on the camera you purchase and the type of camera enthusiast that you are.  It will depend on if you take a few pictures a week, or are an active photographer.  The best part about it is, the information you get with your camera will tell you everything you want to know.  You can also ask someone when you purchase the camera and they should be more than happy to answer any of those type of questions.  Good luck, and good shooting.
