How to Use a Garmin Data Cable
- 1). Plug the small end of the USB data cable into the connector on the side of your Garmin GPS. Connect the larger end of the cable to the USB port on your computer.
- 2). Browse your computer for the files you want to transfer to your Garmin GPS. Depending on the type of these files, they may be in folders for documents, photos or music.
- 3). Highlight the file you want to transfer and right-click. Click "Copy."
- 4). Double-click the "My Computer" icon on your computer's desktop. Open the Garmin drive, which now appears under your computer's list of drives. The drive may have the name of your GPS model or may not have a name, but it should appear as an external drive.
- 5). Right-click in the open Garmin drive and select "Paste." The file should now appear in the list of files in your Garmin's memory.
- 6). Repeat Steps 3 to 5 for every additional file you wish to transfer. When you are done, double-click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in your system's tray on the right-hand side of the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
- 7). Select "USB Mass Storage Device" from the window that pops up on your screen and click "Stop". Select the Garmin drive, click "OK" and disconnect the data cable from your computer.
- 1). Plug the small end of your Garmin USB data cable to the side of your GPS, and connect the larger end to a USB port on your computer. The Garmin volume (drive) should appear on your Mac desktop.
- 2). Browse your computer for the files you wish to transfer to your Garmin GPS.
- 3). Drag the file you wish to transfer and drop it into your Garmin volume. The file now should appear in your Garmin volume.
- 4). Repeat Steps 2 and 3 with all the files you wish to transfer to your Garmin GPS.
- 5). Drag your Garmin volume and drop it into the "Trash" icon. The icon should read "Eject," and you can safely disconnect the Garmin data cable from your computer.
