How Do I Download an Online Computer Game to a Memory Card?
- Most online games, being stored on centralized servers, maintain your place in the game and your scores as they pertain to your individual computer's Internet address. If you change computers or refresh your system with an OS install, your progress and points will be lost. This, needless to say, is a pain.
You could dedicate an entire computer to online gaming and just never perform any kind of critical maintenance or upgrades on it, but to avoid the inevitable apocalyptic system crash that option would cause, we suggest another: Download your online games to a memory card, and you can play them at will on any computer you like.
The type of memory card doesn't matter, as long as it is large enough to accommodate the game in its entirety; piece-by-piece installs won't work many times and can lose your scores and progress. For multiple and/or very large games, you might want to consider using an external hard drive. For smaller games, a memory card alone should be enough, depending on its storage capacity.
Insert/plug your desired external memory device into your computer, and navigate to the game you'd like to download. Once you've begun the download, the computer should ask you where you'd like the game saved. Instead of saving it to your computer, use the folder browser in the "Save To" box to find your external memory device, and save it there.
If you have your "Save To" settings preset to a particular folder on your computer, simply move the game files to your external memory card once the download is complete. Make sure to get them all; otherwise your game may not work properly.
Now, you're all set to install your favorite online games onto the computer of your choice.
