How to Identify Pontiac Rally II Wheels
- 1). Inspect the wheel. The Pontiac Rally II wheel has five large solid spokes, typically painted gray over a black background. Around the outer rim, between the spokes are five slots. Rally II wheels also have five lug nuts. Colors may vary according to the year and vehicle model, with some Rally IIs matching the vehicle's color scheme. The Rally II also featured a chromed trim ring and a red center cap insert.
- 2). Locate and reference the Rally-II wheel code. According to Pontiac Server's Rally II Application Chart, the two letter wheel code is stamped between the rims, usually next to the tire valve stem. Example codes include "HL" and "JH, " with "HL" identifying a Rally II 14 by 6 wheel used on a variety of vehicles, such as the 1967 Firebird with disc brakes, the 1973 to 1974 Le Mans and the 1969 Grand Prix. The code "JH" identifies a Rally II 14 by 7 wheel used on 1969 to 1973 Firebirds.
- 3). Measure the Rally II wheel. For extra confidence in the Rally II identification, measure both the height and width of the wheel with a tape measure to be sure of the size. Different sizes for Rally II wheel included 14-by-6, 14-by-7, 15-by-6 and 15-by-7. Using a tape measurer, measure across the middle of the wheel face from edge to edge for the wheel size and across the rim edges for the wheel width. Match these measurements to the wheel size of the intended vehicle.
