    Trees

    • The Italian cypress tree is a tall, narrow evergreen used in formal gardens. In your Tuscan landscape, these trees can provide your home with privacy and the elegant look of an Italian landscape design. Olive and citrus trees are another element of a Tuscan landscape that you can use in your garden design. Use citrus trees in large terra cotta planters along the walkway up to your front door.

    Herbs

    • Lavender adds a splash of color to your Tuscan herb garden. Use sage, thyme, basil and rosemary in your Italian herb garden, as well. These plants give your yard a great fragrance, and they can be used in your kitchen and home as well.

    Vegetables

    • Plant tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and artichokes in your Tuscan garden for an authentic Italian flair. These vegetables in your garden allow you to create some authentic Italian dishes in the kitchen. An herb and vegetable garden is a staple in every Tuscan landscape design.

    Flowers

    • Climbing flowers, such as wisteria and climbing roses, add some color and beauty to your Tuscan garden. You can plant roses and day lilies for soft pastel colors in the garden design, as well as blueberry and strawberry plants to create the look of an Italian country home. The most common feature of the Tuscan garden is the use of pots to plant flowers and herbs in the garden. Add poppies or a hydrangea shrub for a bright splash of color and beauty in the garden.
