    • 1). Cast on 150 stitches for a worsted-weight scarf, leaving a 6-inch tail.

    • 2). Turn your work to continue working in straight rows even though you are using circular needles.

    • 3). Knit every row in garter stitch, leaving a 6-inch tail at the end of the last row knitted with the first yarn scrap.

    • 4). Join a new scrap, leaving a 6-inch tail at the beginning of the row. To leave a tail, insert the right needle through the first stitch on the left needle as if to knit. Fold the new working yarn six inches from the end and lay the fold over the right needle. Pull the fold through the first stitch.

    • 5). Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the scarf is as wide as you want it to be. Bind off all stitches.

    • 6). Fill out the fringe on the end of the scarf with extra scraps. The tails of all your joined scraps will be hanging down on both ends. To attach fringe, cut 12-inch pieces of yarn and gather three pieces together.

    • 7). Insert a crochet hook through the first stitch on one of the selvedge edges. In this case, the selvedge edges will be the two ends of the scarf since you knitted horizontally.

    • 8). Fold the three 12-inch strands in half, lay the fold over the crochet hook and pull the folded section through.

    • 9). Thread the six loose ends through the loop and pull on them to tighten them against the end of the scarf.
