    Hoover Tower

    • Hoover Tower is a recognizable Stanford landmark and provides views of the campus and the Bay Area from its observation platform. The tower is 14 stories tall and the platform can be accessed by elevator. The lobby of the tower displays memorabilia from the life of President Herbert Hoover, a member of Stanford's first class in 1895. The tower is 285 feet high and was completed in 1941 to celebrate the university's 50th anniversary.

    The Dish

    • The Dish is an operating radiotelescope used by research and teaching programs at the university. The space around the dish is a popular recreation area that is used by the university and the surrounding community. Various Stanford research programs like the Conservation Biology Program tend to parts of this area. These areas are used to provide space for various native plants and animals like the California tiger salamander. The Dish is open to the public year-round from sunrise to sunset.

    Stanford Memorial Church

    • Stanford Memorial Church is one of the earliest western interdenominational churches. Standing at the center of campus, the church was built by Jane Stanford as a memorial to Leland Stanford, her husband. The church and much of the original campus was designed by Charles A. Coolidge, who was 28 at the time. Inspired by the Romanesque style of architecture, Coolidge based his designs in this mode. An earthquake in 1906 destroyed parts of the church but it was quickly restored. Another earthquake in 1989 caused some damage as well and the church had to close until 1993 when renovations were complete.

    Canford Arts Center

    • The Canford Arts Center is open to the public and offers free admission to its galleries. The collection includes 4,000 years of art history and has the largest collection of Rodin bronzes outside of Paris, France. The Rodin sculpture garden is an outdoor exhibit and is also free to enter. The center also has the Cool Cafe, which serves meals and drinks and offers free tours Wednesday through Sunday. The Center's bookshop is also open Wednesday to Sunday and sells museum related gifts and merchandise.
