Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah celebrations are becoming bigger and more elaborate every year. Most people want their party to be the biggest, best, and most memorable of them all. So how do you achieve this? In this article we will be discussing some of the largest and most popular Bar Mitzvah factors & trends, as well as look at the best ways to make your event a unique and unforgettable one.

1)      Event Venue – This is one of the most important factors in any Bar Mitzvah party. Most are held in hotel event rooms or reception spaces within a synagogue. Try something new. Outdoors is a great option (if you live somewhere with temperate weather for the time of year). If you live in a city, try the rooftop of a large building. If you live in a more rural area or a city lacking tall building, try a lushly landscaped park. The beach is another no brainer. This will give your event a natural feel and give you the freedom to introduce aspects rarely seen (inflatable's, foam machines, animals, etc). Of course you should have a back up plan if the weather turns bad (either large tents or a back up venue, if you see possible trouble in advance)

2)      Catering – This is a great place where you can get creative. Try to incorporate foods that represent the Bar Mitzvah. If his name is Joshua, try serving food that starts with a J, or food shaped like a J. The more original the grub, the better. Just don't sacrifice taste for originality. Always sample before buying and stay away from allergy causing food.

3)      Entertainment – You can never go wrong with a DJ, but everyone has a one. Why not supplement your DJ with more original forms of entertainment? For instance you can hire a comedian. For the kids, a magician might be a good idea. I would stay away from single person entertainment (caricatures, face painters, etc) because it encourages less interaction. Although virtual reality is becoming a big hit, it falls into this category. Side show type entertainment is coming back in style. Sword eaters, fire breathers, contortionists, etc. These are real conversation starters!

4)      Invitations – Traditional Bar Mitzvah invitations are engraved or letter pressed and usually plainly colored. Make your invitations and save the date cards count! These are your party's first impressions after all! I recommend going with very unique, memorable styles and designs. For instance you can send invitations that resemble VIP passes with lanyards and require them for admission (this also keeps out party crashers). For save the date cards you can make custom bookmarks. These can double as keepsakes. For unique colors, try lime green and brown. For a good mix of modern and traditional, try invitations featuring the tree of life.

I have found these 4 factors to be the largest for determining a successful and unforgettable Bar Mitzvah party. Favors are sometimes considered another large factor, but I always felt that whoever judges a party based on is given to him or her, isn't someone's opinion I care about anyways. It isn't always about how much you spend, but how you spend it. Follow these steps and stay true to yourself, and your Bar or Bat Mitzvah will be remembered for years to come..
