  Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, formerly Wolf Laurel Resort, is in the western North Carolina town of Mars Hill. It features 20 alpine ski slopes, as well as trails for snowmobile riding and cross-country skiing. Log cabin accommodations are available through Scenic Wolf Resort, Wolf Ridge's vacation rental company, and other nearby cabin rental locations. The Wolf Ridge ski season runs from November or December, depending on the amount of snowfall, through March.
  
  

Scenic Wolf Resort

• Scenic Wolf Resort, which is operated by the Wolf Ridge Ski Area, provides guests with immediate access to the skiing facilities. Other Scenic Wolf amenities include an indoor swimming pool and privileges at nearby Wolf Ridge Golf Club. Guests who rent bikes can take advantage of the Appalachian Trail, which is less than three miles from Scenic Wolf. This resort's cabins have up to five bedrooms and features such as a game room with pool tables, living room with fireplace, fully furnished kitchens and outdoor picnic areas with barbecue grills. Wolf Mountain Rentals

• Wolf Mountain Rentals offers vacation and seasonal cabins that are within 10 to 15 minutes driving distance of Wolf Ridge Ski Resort. Guests at Wolf Mountain rental homes will also be near recreational facilities in Pisgah National Forest, such as hiking trails, picnic areas and campsites. Wolf Mountain operates more than 50 cabins, some with five bedrooms. Amenities in all cabins include fully furnished kitchens, living room areas with fireplaces, patios or decks and access to Wi-Fi Internet. Creekside Cabin

• Creekside Cabin in Mars Hill is approximately a 30-minute drive from Wolf Ridge Ski area and provides guests with quick access to Chestnut Mountain, too. This natural landmark features hiking and cycling trails and opportunities for mountain climbing. Trails for nature walks are also on the cabin's 60-acre property. The log cabin is open year-round. Creekside Cabin has two bedrooms; amenities include a fully furnished kitchen, outdoor deck and barbecue grill, satellite television with DVD player and a sofa-bed in the living room. This cabin is a nonsmoking facility. Dogs are allowed to stay for an additional fee.
