Western Scrub-Jay
Western scrub-jays (Aphelocoma californica) normally have several white markings, including a white eyebrow, gray or white breast and a white chin. Experienced birders, however, will notice the white patches in this bird’s tail and on the wings. This type of leucism is typical, when the abnormal coloring shows up in symmetrical patterns. This can create tricky identification, however, since the markings may seem more regulated instead of unusual.
