All Natural Candles - 2 Affordable Options

All natural candles have been around since the time of Christ in the form of beeswax candles.
However, these candles were very expensive and generally regarded as luxuries only afforded by affluent members of society.
Only recently - really since the invention of soy wax in 1992 - have all natural candles been affordable.
Obviously you don't have to be wealthy to buy a beeswax candle, but when money is a factor, and paraffin candles are a fraction of the price, it's hard to justify the cost.
Thankfully, there are 2 more very affordable, yet still natural options: soy wax candles and palm wax candles.
Soy candles: Soy candles are the most popular option as far as all natural candles are concerned.
There are a couple reasons for this.
Firstly, as compared to paraffin candles, soy candles burn much longer and have a better scented throw (they disperse the fragrance more effectively).
Although beeswax does burn longer than soy wax, it is far more expensive.
Not only that, but beeswax has a natural scent of honey when it is burned.
It's a lovely scent, but what if you don't like the smell of honey, or simply desire another fragrance? Soy wax burns odorless.
Because of this, it's much easier to add fragrance and get only the smell of that fragrance from the candle, or just have an unscented soy candle.
Most soy candles are jar or container candles because pure soy wax is naturally quite soft.
Soy pillar candles are not pure soy and container other botanical oils to help the soy wax keep its shape.
Another economic benefit of these all natural candles is that soy beans are mainly grown in the US, so when you buy soy candles, you are supporting the US economy.
Palm wax candles: This is a relatively unknown all natural candle compared to soy wax, but actually predates soy candles considerably.
Some say that palm wax burns even cleaner than soy wax.
It burns hotter than soy wax due to the fact that it's a much harder wax.
Besides the benefit of a long and clean burn, palm wax candles have a very unique appearance that is usually described as feathered or crystal-like.
Palm wax pillar candles will reflect the light as you rotate the candle.
It is truly spectacular.
There is one potential down side to these all natural candles when it comes to the environment.
Many manufacturers in Malaysia and Indonesia are allegedly cutting down rainforest to build palm harvesting plantations.
So if you buy palm wax candles, make sure that the company you buy them from knows where their palm wax is coming from.
All natural candles are becoming more and more popular as people are becoming more aware of their carbon footprint as they buy non-sustainable products.
One small step to make the world a better place as well as to keep honest companies in business is to switch to all natural candles.
Whether your choice is soy wax, palm wax or beeswax, either of these options is better than the petroleum based paraffin candle.
