With kidney disease being one of the worst medical conditions to suffer, some patients who are new to learn that they have kidney disease often feel that it is the end of the line for them. Luckily, this is not the case for most of them as their are some easy diet changes that have proven to have dramatic results. The kidney diet is essential to the success of curing kidney disease in any patient as the diet is the most common cause for first deterioration of the kidney.

Learning what foods in the kidney diet can help you beat the problem is the first step to the recovery of your kidneys.

Try to avoid salty foods: Salt can cause extreme stress on the kidneys and must be avoided at all costs. Try to find foods such as plain noodles, unsalted popcorn or other low sodium alternatives. This can easily be found by looking at the nutrition contents of the item. It is important to stay well below the recommended daily intake of sodium for the kidney diet. Try to limit your protein intake. Try eating only whole proteins such as eggs, fish and chicken. Try to stay clear of dairy if possible and keep protein intake from low to moderate. Excessive protein can cause stress on the kidneys.

Try to limit your fluid intake. Many experts recommend constantly flushing the kidneys with large amounts of water. Patients who undertake this practise usually deteriorate much quicker as this causes the kidneys much more stress. The kidney dietensures maximum recovery and nutrition for the kidneys.

Limit your Phosphorus and Potassium intakes. Phosphorus and potassium again must be investigated in all food you eat from dairy to cola to nuts. They all place added stress on the kidneys.

As with any dietary decisions you undertake, you should always consult with your dietitian and doctor who will help you organise a kidney diet plan to best suit your needs. Not everyone can follow the kidney diet 100% as some people have specific foods that they need in their diet and some may be allergic to others.

For those who are currently suffering kidney disease, it is important to remember that all the associated effects can be reversed, and can be done through very simple natural diet changes. Gone are the days of kidney transplants and dialysis, as more and more doctors are now discovering the real cause of kidney disease stems from incorrect diet choices, hence the kidney diet.
