DIY Minisplit
- 1). Verify that all of the required parts are included in the installation kit. The two main parts that you need are the refrigerant lineset and the wire harness.
- 2). Locate the black connector that is inside the split air unit. Connect the one end of the defrost wire to the black connector.
- 3). Determine where you want to install the split air unit on the wall. Place the bracket for the wall unit on the wall. Secure the bracket to the studs in the wall with screws using the power drill.
- 4). Attach the 3-inch hole saw attachment to the chuck of the power drill. Drill a 3-inch hole for the refrigerant lines to the right or left of the bracket.
- 5). Secure the split air unit to the mounting bracket. Insert the insulated lineset, the defrost wire, electrical wires and drain pipe into the split air unit and out of the hole in the wall.
- 6). Connect the copper lines of the insulated lineset to the compressor. Tighten the fittings that are on these copper lines with the adjustable wrench.
- 7). Wire the compressor to a breaker on your home's circuit panel. Attach the electrical wire from the split air unit to the compressor. You may need to hire an electrician to complete the wiring.
- 8). Connect the refrigerant lines to the compressor. Tighten the fittings on the ends of the refrigerant lines with the adjustable wrench. Open the shut-off valve for the refrigerant.
- 9). Attach the drain line to the split air unit and open the front cover. Attach the wiring harness and the defrost wire to the split air unit.
