Bakugan is more than simply a game.
It is an entire world that encompasses that game and all of the properties associated with it.
At heart, Bakugan is a strategic game that uses both trading cards and models to engage in simulated combat between the players.
This game was launched in conjunction with the Bakugan Battle Brawlers television series.
However, there is also a video game based on the series.
The Bakugan Battle Brawlers, a Japanese animated series or anime, was originally released as a 51 episode television program.
However, when dubbed into English, the series consisted of 52 episodes.
It chronicled the adventures of several young individuals who fought against incredible odds to use their Bakugan monsters to save the universe from the brink of total collapse.
The leader of the group, Dan Kuso, was the partner of the Bakugan known as Dragonoid.
As such, this massive fire-breathing dragon has come to be a symbol of the story as a whole.
After the original anime, Bakugan: New Vestroia was released, which served as a follow-up to the first.
Having run 26 episodes, this animated program took place in a parallel dimension, and dealt with the world from which the Bakugan came.
This series itself is probably going to have a follow up, known as Bakugan: Gunadlian Invaders, which is set for a 2010 release date.
These anime shows only further encourage fans, who themselves are often termed Battle Brawlers, to play the game that meshes into the storyline.
Using models of the creatures that are spring loaded and open via the use of a magnet, and trading cards, the game gets players right into the action.
Gate cards fulfill the need of a stadium for the game, and the object is ultimately to capture three of the opposing gate cards.
Optional ability cards and traps cards are based off of various points in the anime, and therefore further allow enthusiasts to replicate their favorite battles.
The Bakugan Battle Brawlers video game is developed from the first anime series, and has a story that depicts something similar to the flow of that series.
Though the battle system is a bit different, the characters of Dan, Runo, Marucho, Shun, Masquerade, and many others are included.
Recently, it has also been announced that there will be a launch of a massive multiplayer online game based around Bakugan, which will occur in 2010.
