Benefits of Recycling

Although a lot is being said about global warming and different kinds of pollution, many of us turn a blind eye.
We do not care about these things because we feel that they do not affect us directly.
However, acid rains, droughts, melting glaciers, deforestation, and rising global temperatures are a fact of life that every person should take seriously.
Environmentalists and researchers have suggested several methods for preventing global warming and pollution, and one such method is recycling.
In fact, recycling is one thing that can have a great impact on our planet.
Not only does it aid in reducing the harmful effects of industrial products, it also helps to save energy.
The following are some of the benefits of recycling: While Internet and email has taken over the world, people still receive letters through regular mail and postal services.
Many of these letters are promotional material, which are of no use to people.
If people actually start recycling these letters, then they would be saving around 150,000 trees each year.
There are many companies that believe in using just recycled paper and therefore, there are special paper mills that use paper to make this kind of paper.
If you recycle one ton of paper, you will be saving about 17 trees.
So, people who are serious about wanting to save the planet should opt for recycled paper and avoid using paper unnecessarily.
Recycling can also aid in the reduction of greenhouse gases.
By recycling plastic, metals, paper and glass, you can do your bit to reduce greenhouse gases, which are responsible for global warming, rising sea levels and climate change.
If people use more recycled products, they will be using sustainable living practices.
This will help in conserving the precious natural resources that are being used rampantly.
Also, many of the products that are recycled are made originally from materials that are non-biodegradable and are invariably dumped into landfills.
Non-biodegradable materials and items that find their way into landfills release methane gas when they decompose and this gas is one of the major greenhouse gases.
Also, plastics and products made from plastics take a minimum of 700 years to decompose and have adverse effect on the soil and water bodies.
So, by using recycled products and by recycling, you prevent pollutants from finding their way into our water bodies and soil.
In turn, this will help the delicate ecosystems to survive without causing any harm to the plants and animals.
