Pigeon Forge was named for the passenger pigeons that frequented the area when it was first settled in the late 18th Century.
Pioneer, Isaac Love stabled an iron forge in 1820.
In 1830 his son, William, built a tub mill.
The Old Mill is now a National Historic Site and is still in operation today.
The town of Pigeon Forge has been growing steadily since the 1940's with the opening of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
It has since become one of the most popular vacations spots in the country.
If you are thinking about visiting this town then you should plan your vacation well in advance as the hotels are usually booked in advance and people have trouble finding places to stay.
While visiting Pigeon Forge you will hear the music of the mountains just about everywhere you go in this town.
