Minority Women

• The Hispanic Scholarship Fund provides awards the Minerva Scholarship and the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women Business Leadership Award to Hispanic college women. Black sororities, such as Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta, offer scholarships to female college students. The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women runs three scholarship programs for African American high school, college and adult women.
  
  

Women in Male-dominated Fields

• Women are underrepresented in science, engineering and business, and some women's organizations use scholarships to increase female representation. The national and local chapters of the Zonta Club grants scholarships to college and adult women pursuing business careers. The Society of Women Engineers and The Association for Women in Science offer scholarships to currently enrolled college women studying math, science and engineering.
  
  

Nontraditional Women

• Some women do not enter college until well into adulthood, and many scholarships are available to them. Sponsored by Executive Women International, The Adult Students in Scholastic Transition Scholarship (ASIST) provides a $2,500 grant to women with financial need who plan to continue their education. The Women's Independent Scholarship Program (WISP) helps nontraditional female students who have suffered domestic abuse. WISP targets single mothers who cannot afford child care.
  
  

Local Scholarships

• Apply for local scholarships. They are less competitive since they have smaller applicant pools. Contact the financial aid offices of area colleges and inquire about them. Call the organizations that sponsor these scholarships and ask if they know of other opportunities. Nearby colleges and high schools are usually the first to receive information about local scholarships. Use an online search engine to search for local scholarships. Type "the name of your city," "women" and "scholarships" into a search engine.
