A Mountain of Public Domain Data

When President Obama was first inaugurated, he talked about a transparency of information.
While much of what happens with Congress and other agencies is hardly transparent, there is one strategy he implemented that should create more new and interesting Public Domain information from the federal government.
What does that mean for us? Access to a mountain of fresh, new Public Domain data that has not been released to the public before.
And it should include information from almost all of these agencies so that they are in compliance with his orders.
The departments of...
  • State
  • Treasury
  • Defense
  • Justice
  • Interior
  • Agriculture
  • Commerce
  • Labor
  • Health and Human Services
  • Housing and Urban Development
  • Transportation
  • And a whole bunch of other agencies that should do us all a lot of good with our content publishing ideas and strategies.
Take a look at this Open Directive from the Presidents Office: Within 45 days, each agency shall identify and publish online in an open format at least three high-value data sets (see attachment section 3.
a.
i) and register those data sets via Data.
gov.
These must be data sets not previously available online or in a downloadable format.
The great thing about this is that you and I have the same ability as any other marketer on the planet to get at this information and use it to create new content for our websites.
And it is all mandated to be available online.
And it even looks like each agency has to create a website that gives updates detailing how they are meeting the Presidential directive.
So we may be able to keep track of updates coming from agencies and organizations that have the biggest connection to the niche topics we are interested in.
So, when you get a chance, head over to Mt.
Public Domain at data.
gov and see if you can find anything useful for your online publishing needs.
