Lortab Effects
- You may experience some mild side effects while using Lortab. Side effects may include anxiety, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, a ringing in your ears, headache, mood swings, constipation, upset stomach, mild nausea and vomiting. If any of these symptoms become bothersome, check with your doctor for advice.
- Lortab can also cause more serious side effects. If you experience any of them, you will need to call your doctor immediately. These side effects could include seizures, difficulty urinating, fear, confusion, lightheadedness, fainting, unusual thoughts or behavior, a slowed heartbeat, slowed breathing, stomach pain, nausea, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools and itching. If you believe you are having an allergic reaction to Lortab, you'll also need to get medical help immediately. Signs of an allergic reaction generally include hives, difficulty breathing and facial swelling.
- Always be careful to follow the directions on the label; do not take more Lortab than instructed. If you do overdose on Lortab, go to the emergency room immediately, as this could be fatal. Signs of an overdose of Lortab include pinpoint pupils, sweating, extreme drowsiness, jaundice, muscle weakness, cold and clammy skin, fainting, blue lips, coma, shallow breathing or no breathing and a weak pulse.
- If you are allergic to either hydrocodone or acetaminophen, you should not take Lortab. You should also not use Lortab if you have a history of drug addiction, consume more than three alcoholic drinks daily, or if you have cirrhosis, asthma, COPD or other breathing disorder, kidney or liver disease, an underactive thyroid, curvature of the spine, mental illness, an intestinal or stomach disorder, an adrenal gland disorder (such as Addison's disease), hypotension and a history of a brain tumor or head injury. Additionally, Lortab is an FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it can appear in breast milk and may cause both addiction and withdrawal symptoms, as well as breathing problems in a newborn. If you become pregnant while taking Lortab, inform your doctor.
- Some drugs may interact with Lortab. Tell your doctor about all of your medications, including any irritable bowel medications, MAOIs, antidepressants, any bladder or urinary medications, a bronchodilator and atropine. Lortab contains acetaminophen, so do not use any additional products that contain acetaminophen (such as cold, pain or allergy medications). Additionally, muscle relaxers, seizure medications, antidepressants and sleeping pills can intensify drowsiness when used with Lortab. You should not consume alcohol while using this drug, as it can increase the risk of liver damage.
