Biaxin XL Common Side Effects
- Side effects of Biaxin range from mild to severe. Common and mild symptoms include nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Severe diarrhea that lasts for several days is rare.
- The appearance of severe diarrhea indicates an inflammation of the large intestine, or pseudomembranous colitis; this condition can be life threatening.
- Biaxin may cause birth defects and should not be used by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. People who are allergic to erythromycin or similiar medications such as azithromycin should not take Biaxin.
- Side effects can often be relieved by adjusting the dosage of Biaxin. In the case of severe diarrhea, immediate medical attention is required.
- Patients who suffer from kidney disease may need an adjusted dose of Biaxin to prevent inflammation of the kidneys.
