Hi. I'm Farm to Table chef Teca Thompson at tecathompson.com. And today we're talking about how to water your garden with milk jugs. So, once you've saved your old milk jug, you can just clean it out really good with soap and water. And then you're going to want to take two different size nails. And this is just going to add variety to the holes in the bottom of the jug. So hold your jug upside down and just poke a bunch of nails in the bottom with both size nails. Just make sure you're in a stable place and you don't slip and poke yourself. So once you've poked a good amount of nails in the jug, while this is still empty we're going to bury it like half way in the ground. So you want to make sure the the hole you dig for it doesn't disrupt the root system of the the plants that you're watering. But it's deep enough that it's going to get water to them. So I'm going to dig a little hole here, going to just place my jug in the ground. And this is a really good at home drip system method. So after you place your jug in the ground you're going to just fill it up with water. You can just use your garden hose or watering can or another jug, whatever works for you. And I'm going to take my lid and I'm going to seal the jug back up and this will allow the water to escape more slowly. And then I'm just going to lift it up and we're dripping back down in there. And you're good to go. So you'll want to check this of course and then you can just refill it when it's empty. And that will be a constant drip system for your plants in your garden. And you can also do it if you want to pre-freeze the jug with water. You can do that and use the same steps, poke the holes, put it in the ground and then your water is already done and it will melt and drip in the ground. But you just want to make sure that if you're ever using the frozen method that you be careful because it's a lot more slippery and hard to handle. So just don't slip and poke yourself.
