How to Donate a Car to Greenpeace
- 1). Check your personal documents to make sure that you have the title for the car you want to donate. You must have the title to donate a car. If you cannot find it, you can apply for a replacement title through your state's department of motor vehicles. The replacement title fee varies by state.
- 2). Contact Action Donation Services by phone at 866-244-8464 or by filling out their online donation form (see Reference section). Be prepared to give your car's make, model, year and VIN number, and your location and contact details. Your vehicle's information must be evaluated to make sure the vehicle is acceptable.
- 3). Wait for the pickup agent to contact you once the car review has been completed. You will need to let the pickup agent know you want your donation to benefit Greenpeace. You will also schedule a time and date for the car to be picked up by Action Donation Services. You must be available to sign over the car title at that time, which is when you get a temporary receipt.
- 4). Get your actual tax receipt once Action Donation Services sells the car. They will auction it off, the proceeds will go to Greenpeace and you will get a tax receipt with the sale amount listed on it for your records. It can take up to three weeks for the tax receipt to arrive by mail.
