Do-it-Yourself Hardware Cloth Trellis
- 1). Dig two post holes at least 18 inches deep and 6 to 8 inches in diameter, positioned about 8 feet apart in the area where you want your climbing plants to grow.
- 2). Insert the posts into the post holes and use rocks or clods of stone to prop them up so that they're centered in the holes and straight.
- 3). Pour a quick-setting dry concrete mixture up to the top of the hole, then wet thoroughly. Do this for each post one at a time, unless you can get help.
- 4). Hold or prop the posts upright until the concrete has partially set. Wait overnight for the concrete to harden completely.
- 5). Put on the heavy work gloves (hardware cloth can have sharp ends) and wrap one end of the roll of hardware cloth around one of the posts so that its edge runs parallel to the post, and staple it in place.
- 6). Unroll the hardware cloth until it reaches the other post, then wrap that end around the second post and staple in place. If there is excess hardware cloth, use wire cutters to snip the excess, then staple down the loose end.
