      Chicago is a vibrant metropolis consisting of 237 square miles of land along the shores of Lake Michigan. The city is a cultural hub of the American Midwest, with hundreds of theaters, art galleries, museums and architecturally significant buildings. According to the city's tourism website, more than 45 million visitors took in Chicago's sights and sounds in 2007. Each year, the city hosts dozens of annual events in the month of April.

    Chicago Improv Festival 


    • The Chicago Improv Festival is a celebration of an art form that is popular in the city of Chicago, home of the Second City and Improv Olympic comedy theaters. Each April, ensembles from around the city gather to perform at a variety of venues under the banner of the Chicago Improv Festival. Since 1988, the festival has promoted the art of improvisational performance through a variety of workshops, lifetime achievement awards and showcases.

    The Chicago Latino Film Festival

    • The Chicago Latino Film Festival is "the largest, oldest and best Latino film festival in the country," according to Hispanic Magazine. Each April, more than 100 films by Latino filmmakers are screened at a local theater; in 2010, the Landmark Century Center Cinema in the near north Lakeview neighborhood. Sponsored by the International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago, the festival for 2010 is scheduled to include films from Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Spain, with a bicentennial independence tribute to Mexico scheduled for opening night.

    Greek Independence Day Parade

    • The Greek Independence Day Parade is held each spring, usually in April, in Chicago's Greektown neighborhood. Held since 1964, the parade is an expression of Greek American pride sponsored by Enosis, the Federation of Hellenic American Organizations. One of 36 annual parades in the city of Chicago, the Greek Independence Day Parade commemorates the anniversary of the Greek Declaration of Independence in 1821 and contains floats and marching groups from a variety of Greek-American organizations. The parade begins in the heart of Greektown at Halsted and Randolph Streets.
