How to Apply for a Tax Rebate in the United Kingdom
- 1). Find out how much you have paid in income tax over the course of the year. Your employer should have given you a P60 form, which contains this information. If you've left your job before the end of the tax year, check your P45 form.
- 2). Check your tax code. You can find it on the P60 form, as well as on every pay check. The code tells you how much you can earn each year tax-free. For example, 647L means that you have a personal allowance of £6475.
- 3). Use the information from previous Steps to calculate how much you should have paid in tax.
- 4). Contact your local tax office and tell them that you have overpaid your tax. You can find the address on your P60 or on the HM Revenue and Customs website. They will confirm the information and issue you a check.
