Snoring Treatments - When the Home Remedies Fail

103 205
Sometimes sufferers of snoring have more dangerous problems than just the annoying habit itself.
For these people, the simple "sleep on your side" techniques to getting rid of snoring may not work.
They need to seek more advanced snoring treatments based on the advice of a medical professional.
Below are some of the ways to treat this condition after exhausting the available home remedies.
1.
Oral Devices
- There are appliances worn in your mouth at night that will aid in breathing and reduce the possibility of snoring.
These can be created for you by a dentist.
The device looks similar to a mouth guard worn by football players, and will help keep your airway unblocked throughout the night.
There are also more advanced devices that fit around your head and keep your lower jaw in place if it proves to be the problem.
These snoring treatments are typically painless, but may take some getting used to.
2.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
- This is a machine that sits at your bedside.
A mask connected to the machine is worn over your nose and mouth throughout the night.
The machine will force air into the mask and through your breathing passages.
This air pressure keeps you from having to breathe so hard on your own, which can help you get a better night's sleep.
This is often a last resort, or for those who refuse surgery.
Although a CPAP machine can be very effective at eliminating snoring, the machine's air tubes can be an annoyance.
3.
Surgical Procedures
- After visiting a doctor, he/she may recommend surgery to treat your condition.
This is especially true if you have sleep apnea or a hereditary cause of your snoring.
For example, a new procedure called palatal implantation is being used to treat snorers, and seems to be working for most of those who have tried it.
Small plastic pieces are implanted in the soft palate, which eliminates the vibrations that are caused during sleep.
This will often prevent snoring from occurring.
When home remedies are not successful at solving your problem, consider discussing one or more of these treatments with your doctor.
