I"ve been invited to a wedding; do I have to attend?
Question: I've been invited to a wedding; do I have to attend?
Answer: Just because you've been invited, you are not technically obligated to attend. Couples know that not everyone they invite will be able to attend, and frequently budget as such. If you cannot go to the wedding of a close relative, or a close friend, it would be nice to send them a note saying something akin to "I'm so sorry that I can't attend your wedding.
I would love to be there, but unfortunately I will be out of town. Best wishes for all your happiness." Most guests will also send a gift.
