Next to lower back pain, upper back pain between the shoulders is a common source of pain.
The specific area which we are talking about is the shoulder blade or Scapula.
This part of the back is heavily muscled which enables the skeletal system to function smoothly.
This is a part of the body that does often experience swelling of the tissues and muscles causing discomfort.
The pain can be caused by many factors.
The discomfort could be caused by strains placed upon the muscle from work or exertion.
It may also indicate a much more serious medical condition.
Upper back pain can be indicators of heart related problems, tumors, or an indicator of an organ problem in the body.
Either way, if upper back pain persists for more than a week, one should consult with a physician to rule out a more severe medical condition.
Fortunately, most upper back discomfort can be traced back to a much more benign cause.
Although this doesn't help the pain or discomfort, it can be reassuring that the pain can be treated.
Upper back pain can be caused by everyday stress, poor posture and yes muscle strain.
In years past, most took over the counter products such as Aspirin or Acetaminophen.
These products may temporarily mask the discomfort; have some harmful side effects if used for long periods.
Westernized medicine is beginning to embrace the use of more holistic and safe pain relief methods.
Methods such as Message therapy, Chiropractic care and Acupuncture all have begun to establish a credible track record of helping people with chronic back pain.
