Getting a Free Phone Number

• 1). Sign up for an account with Google. This is required for you to activate a new phone number on Google Voice.
  
  
• 2). Visit the Google Voice website. When prompted, choose that you want to sign up for a Google Voice account with a new phone number.
  
  
• 3). Select the area code that you want your number to begin with, then click through the available numbers until you find one that you like.
  
  
• 4). Go to "Settings" after you activate your account and choose "Phones." After you enter your current phone number, all phone calls sent to your new phone number will be promptly forwarded to you.
