At one point in time an air charter service was something accessible only to those high on the corporate ladder.
Business executives and CEOs of major companies would resort to using air charter services as an alternative to owning an aircraft of their own.
These private charter companies would provide these professionals with all the great luxury and convenience associated with owning a private jet without the extra cost of maintaining and keeping it.
As well as being very expensive to purchase outright, a private jet can also be extremely costly to maintain; you'd need to have an aircraft hangar or an airstrip to store the plane - both of which can cost a huge amount of money.
As a result they decided to use a charter service instead.
It is hard to determine when the types of air charter service commonly utilised by business people today were first introduced.
The majority of people would argue that the first air charter service began just after the end of World War II.
After the War had drawn to a conclusion many aircraft were simply left unused.
This led many owners to either rent out or charter their unused aircraft; the money they gained from offering this service would enable them to maintain their planes, as well as acting as a viable business.
In the 1960s many companies began to latch on to the idea of an air charter service and it really began to take off - gaining huge amounts of exposure amongst the wealthy.
It was during this period that the first commercial jet became available to those within the air charter industry.
This piece of aircraft was known as the Learjet 23.
A popular model that became well known very quickly for its great performance and impressive design, the Learjet 23 set the standards for the aircraft released at the time.
Those who are involved in the charter industry today continue to consider the Learjet to be one of the best charter jets ever manufactured.
Soon after the introduction of the Learjet, several more aircraft were designed and manufactured.
Many of these new jet models became available to companies offering various types of service.
These jets were very different from those that preceded them.
Previous models were modeled on military aircrafts, whilst these new models put an emphasis on luxury and comfort; as a result they understandably became very popular amongst many passengers.
As time went on the air charter industry grew even more and after four decades we are now able to see jets used by many companies - that offer various types of air charter service - which offer a huge amount of luxury and accommodate a passenger's every need.
In the modern age, with the help of the Internet, it is easier than ever before for an individual to schedule a flight with an air charter service.
Charter websites have made it much more convenient for those who wish to travel in style to be able to do so in a quick and efficient manner by allowing them with little trouble.
