New Research May Help With Weight Loss
Scientists are working very hard to try and find some help for the obesity crisis.
Along with potential new medications, scientists are working to understand why some people are overweight and other people stay slim for life.
This is an area that requires a great deal of work, as there is very little known about why we eat so much.
We need to catch up fast, before this obesity crisis becomes a total epidemic.
Recently Australian scientists have discovered that people can detect sixth taste, which is fat.
They have found that some people are very sensitive to this taste, so that they actually avoid it.
These people usually have a much lower BMI than those who do not have the sensitivity to this taste.
Obviously this means that people with a very high BMI,do not necessarily have the sensitivity so they eat a lot of fat, which is stored in the body and helps to make them obese.
Scientists believe that they can use the information that they have discovered to find out why some people are sensitive to the taste of fat and others are not.
This may lead in the future to some way of helping obese people with their fat consumption.
Although this is just a start, it may lead to a vaccine or a medication that will help obese people stay away from fat.
Scientists have already discovered other tastes, such as sweet, sour, salty, and bitter.
Recently, they discovered another taste and its name is Umami.
This is a very interesting taste and its one that's not quite as nice as the others.
This is the taste of protein rich foods.
So now that the scientists have discovered another taste, adding to their inventory.
It will be very interesting to see what other tastes they may come up with in the future.
