Heading on holiday? Don't make the mistake of blowing your entire vacation budget before you've even left home. With these cheap travel tips, you can look good - and save money - on your next getaway.

1. Tote Cheap Luggage

That Tumi luggage is going to be tossed into the same dirty cargo hold as a cheap bag, so save your money for your actual vacation and pack your belongings in one of these wallet-friendly luggage picks.More »

2. Don't Check a Bag

An easy way to reign in your pre-holiday spending is to limit yourself to a carry-on. Those pricey, must-have shoes and army of products will seem a lot less necessary once you try to cram them all into a carry-on. As a bonus, you'll save money on luggage fees and won't have to worry about anything getting lost.

3. Take Old Clothes

We're not suggesting that you wear ratty, moth-eaten duds on your holiday, but if you have some items that are at the end of their lives (underwear, T-shirts, etc.) pack a few of them in your carry-on with the intent of tossing them at the end of your trip. This will free up some space in your bag for a few (a few!) trinkets from your journey.

4. Speaking of Trinkets

Why pack expensive jewelry when you can buy some local pieces on your travels? If you are going to tote jewelry, limit yourself to a couple of key pieces only.

5. Think Wash-and-Wear

You might not want to relive that college backpacking trip where showers and clothing changes were optional, but packing a couple of dresses or tops that can be washed and dried quickly will save luggage space - and money. Remember, only the people you are traveling with will know that you are recycling outfits.
