  Newnan, Georgia, is the county seat of Coweta County, and is about 30 miles southwest of Atlanta. The town has a rich cultural history, and Coweta is home to one of the few Georgia counties with a museum that focuses mainly on African American history. Aside from museums, shopping, restaurants and numerous historical attractions, Coweta County offers opportunities for outdoor recreation, such as hiking, biking, boating and fishing.
  
  

Yogi Bear's Georgia Jellystone Park

• Jellystone Park, which is around 35 miles northwest of Newnan, caters to families with amenities such as playgrounds, an indoor cinema, a game room, a gem mine, mini golf, a large swimming pool plus a slash pool. Activities include train rides, various children's activities, themed weekends and for the kids, Yogi Bear himself. There are full facilities for RVs, including hookups such as city water and sewer, plus 30- and 50-amp electric services and free Wi-Fi. The campground also has cabins for rent furnished with bunk beds, a fully equipped kitchenette, a half bath and dinette. The nearby George Sparks Reservoir offers canoeing, fishing, boating and swimming.

John Tanner State Park

• Enjoy the active outdoor life with a sizeable natural sandy beach at the John Tanner State Park, which lies around 30 miles from Newnan. Accommodations available include 138 acres with 31 tent, trailer and RV campsites with cable TV and a group lodge, plus picnic and group shelters capable of seating up to 75 people. There are also motel units, conveniently located near the beach, featuring fully equipped with kitchens, dining areas, living rooms and bedrooms. The park rents out pedal and fishing boats, and swimming and fishing is available for those that love the water. Land-based activities include hiking on the three-quarter-mile nature trail or the one-mile loop lake trail, volleyball, miniature golf, camping and picnicking.

Sweetwater Valley Park

• Located just a little over 30 miles north of Newnan, this park is set in a tree-shaded campground along Sweetwater Creek. Facilities at the park include picnic tables, bathhouses, an on-site laundry facility, and full RV facilities with 30- and 50-amp electricity and a dump station. The park features a small driving range, a sluice for gem mining, and a playground with swings, plus courts for volleyball, badminton and basketball. Guests will discover a variety of wildlife while enjoying any of the many walking trails around the park. For golf lovers, the famous "Frog" golf course is just five minutes away, as well as numerous other quality courses in the area. Finally, there's great shopping and fine dining all within convenient distances.
